Sustainability

Policy Statement

Academy of Humanopathy   |   London   |   March 2026

Our Position

The Academy of Humanopathy recognises that the health of people and the health of the planet are inseparable. Our commitment to holistic medicine extends beyond the individual to the world we all share.

We are committed to operating as a responsible institution, minimising our environmental impact and embedding sustainability into our teaching, our values and our daily decisions.

Sustainability in Our Postgraduate Programmes

Sustainability is not a standalone topic at the Academy. It is woven into the clinical and philosophical framework of Humanopathic medicine, which recognises the environment as a direct determinant of human health.

Within our Postgraduate Diploma programmes, students are equipped with an understanding of:

  • The relationship between environmental health, lifestyle choices and human wellbeing, as an integral component of integrative clinical practice.
  • How environmental factors, including air quality, food systems, chemical exposure and ecological stress, influence patient presentations and long-term health outcomes.
  • The practitioner’s responsibility to consider environmental context as part of a whole-person assessment.

This approach prepares graduates not only as skilled practitioners but as professionals who understand the broader determinants of health and who can bring that awareness into their clinical work.

Our Institutional Commitments

The Academy is committed to the following:

  • Delivering our programme fully online, reducing the carbon footprint associated with travel, physical infrastructure and paper-based resources.
  • Making responsible choices in our procurement, communications and operations, aligned with the UK Government’s net zero commitments and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Encouraging students and staff to reflect on how environmental factors influence patient health and to incorporate this awareness into their practice.
  • Reviewing our environmental impact annually as part of our institutional planning cycle.

Alignment with National and International Frameworks

This policy is informed by and aligned with:

  • The UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy and commitment to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
  • The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
  • The World Health Organization’s recognition of environmental and social determinants as central to global health outcomes.

Our Commitment

We see sustainability not as a compliance obligation but as an expression of the same values that define Humanopathic medicine: care for the whole person, within a world worth healing.

All staff and students have a responsibility to support the Academy’s sustainability aims. Senior leadership is responsible for implementing this policy and reporting on progress annually.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated in line with any changes to relevant legislation, regulatory guidance or institutional priorities.
